With the QiO Long, the compact bike manufacturer from Hoya expands its portfolio with a cargo bike
QiO is expanding its range of versatile and agile compact bikes with a Longtail model for the 2026 season. Four years after launching the compact QiO EINS, the brand now takes the next step by introducing a cargo bike – evolving into a provider of smart mobility solutions for urban life, touring, and everyday family needs.
Even as a Longtail, the QiO Long is unmistakably a QiO – not only thanks to its distinctive frame shape and 20-inch wheels. This new model with its cleverly designed rear section carries over many of the compact sibling's strengths: its compact dimensions, adjustable fit for riders of different sizes, its versatility thanks to a broad and growing range of accessories, and practical details like the front rack system and the battery placement directly behind the seat tube. The QiO Long is powder-coated and assembled in the HARTJE factory.
One thing is also clear to see: The entire front section is identical to the QiO Compact – saving development and production costs, maintaining consistent design language, and ensuring great riding characteristics (a note by the developer: The slightly modified main frame tube will also be used for the QiO Compact from 2026. One advantage of the improved casting mold is that the frame now requires three weld seams less).
Comfortably automatic, and a budget-conscious entry-level version
The QiO Long will be available in two versions for its first season. The top model QiO Long CLA – CLA stands for Cargo Line Automatic – comes equipped with the latest Bosch Cargo Line motor, powered by an 800 Wh PowerPack battery for extended range. Motor and leg power is transferred via a Gates CDX belt drive to the automatically shifting Enviolo HD hub gear – hence the “Automatic” in the name of this model.
Comfort features include the SR Suntour Mobie 34 suspension fork and a by,schulz suspension seatpost with integrated theft protection. Additional safety and comfort come from the Busch & Müller IQ-X headlight with 100 lux (150 lux with high beam) and an excellent beam pattern.
The QiO Long P9, on the other hand, offers a smart balance between strong components and a competitive entry-level price of € 3,999. “P9” refers to the Bosch Performance drive unit powered by a 545 Wh battery, and the 9-speed Shimano Cues derailleur (11–36 teeth) – making the P9 the first QiO model with a derailleur. It also features a rigid fork, a by,schulz seatpost with theft protection, and a 60 lux Busch & Müller Briq-S headlight.
The QiO Long P9 is also equipped with a rigid fork, by,schulz seat post, also with anti-theft protection, and the Briq-S headlight (60 lux) from Busch and Müller.
Standard on both QiO Long models: Magura Louise 4-piston disc brakes, Spanninga sensor brake light, Schwalbe Pick-Up tires (60 mm wide), and an Abus XPlus battery lock. Bosch system control is handled via the Purion 200 display. The riding position can be customized via Speedlifter and the angle-adjustable stem. A sturdy double kickstand ensures a secure parking position that can be engaged via a handlebar lever.
Long enough for two child seats
The rear frame includes integrated footrests and a sleek side panel. Behind the tidy, well-structured rear – thanks to the spoke and mudguard protection – there’s room for an optional second battery. The platform is long enough to comfortably fit two child seats – designed so that children aren’t seated directly behind the rider’s back or backpack.
New and existing accessories
In addition to child seats, the rear platform can accommodate various components and adapters, including all existing QiO baskets and bags. Nearly all current QiO accessories are compatible with the Long, as the front rack system is also integrated into the steering tube. QiO is launching the Long with a basic set of dedicated accessories: seat cushions for kids and adults (since 2020, adults are allowed to ride on suitable bikes), a railing for kids who’ve outgrown child seats, and large side cargo bags.
The railing is modular and can be adapted to suit passenger age and needs. Adults, for example, will appreciate the front grab handle. Kids can use the side openings to climb on and off easily, and parents will value the child-safe “push-to-open” latch system. More Long-specific accessories are in development.
